What is OSGi?

Well, explaining that it is the Open Service Gateway is making some people upset that control the purse that pays me. So it is no gateway, that is a past the OSGi Alliance tries to forget. If you feel a pressing need for a logical abbreviation, you can call it the Open Specifications Group Initiative, but official it is just a trademark with no special meaning.

The OSGi Alliance shepherds a specification that is really valuable but only recently gets wider recognition.

aQute and OSGi

aQute provides vendor independent advice and expertise regarding the use of OSGi. We can help you in getting started with OSGi by workshops, presentations, courses, mentoring, or sessions with management explaining the advantages and disadvantages of using OSGi.

Every Java enabled device that is connected to a network should use OSGi to provide a secure, reliable, and remotely managed environment. There exists many different vendors that have a compliant OSGi Framework and services reducing the cost of adding professional remote management to a minimum. OSGi and aQute

aQute has been involved with the development of the OSGi specifications since 1998. In that year, Ericsson Research asked aQute to represent Ericsson in the meetings of the predecessor of the OSGi: the Connected Alliance. aQute attended all technical meetings and has contributed significantly to the specifications. In 2001 aQute was asked by the OSGi alliance to coordinate the publication of Service Platform Release 3. This specification was later published as a book by IOS press.
