Peter Kriens Curriculum Vitea

Peter Kriens is a software Architect driven by the desire to see people using the systems he developed. He enthuses team members with his passion for good technology, his deep understanding of the issues, and his desire to get projects in the hands of their users. He applied these skills in the past few years to manage the OSGi Core Platform, Mobile (JSR 232), and Vehicle Expert Groups to develop the highly regarded OSGi specifications, of which he was the editor. Currently he acts as the OSGi evangelist, writing articles, talking on conferences, developing examples. To stay in touch with reality, he mentors software teams in a variety of topics but today mostly around Java and OSGi technology.

He developed his long experience by having to develop many fundemental software technologies because they were not off the shelf in the 80s: networking, databases, GUIs, object oriented, large scale distributed processing, communications. This extensive experience turns out to be still very useful because it provides quick insight into the pros and cons of today's products. Projects he worked on ranges from the Ericsson GSM management systems up to embedded systems. Peter Kriens has been deeply involved in new developments before they became mainstream: Postscript, Object Oriented, C++, XML, Java, and now OSGi.

The extensive experience, coupled with a strong interest in theory (and continuous study), allows him to see problems and novel solutions ahead of most other people. Combined with his social skills, this makes him the right person to mentor a team that works on large scale projects where high costs make the initial design so important for the total cost.

Peter Kriens has the Dutch Nationality, worked in Germany, Belgium, Sweden, and the USA for many large companies. He lived in the Holland, the USA, Sweden and now resides in France.
